Work Experience 

John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Miami, Fla., webmaster, June 2002 to present.

Wrote and/or edited press releases, annual report articles, newsletter and blog content. Key contributor to annual report, newsletter and e-newsletter production. Supervised consultants, freelance designers, interns and temps. Managed content, process and design for DotCMS, Drupal and WordPress web projects. Represented the Foundation at Council on Foundations workgroups and seminars; Donors Forum of South Florida; DrupalCon; various regional grantee and funder gatherings.

Knightridder.com, Senior Designer, 2000-02.
Designed and produced custom web sites for clients including Miami Red Cross; Reunited; Orange Bowl Festival; Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce; Tropic Hunt. Produced multimedia editorial content for web site including breaking news; hurricane tracking; environment; Afghanistan war; Cuba coverage. Produced special marketing sections for advertisers such as Macy's, South Motors.

The Miami Herald, Senior Editorial Artist, 1996-2000.
Graphically reported many nationally-visible breaking news stories, including two plane crashes, the Versace killing, a vote-fraud conspiracy. Frequent coverage of global and local science, business and weather subjects. Proofed all graphics for department.

Allison Legal Graphics Group, Miami, Fla.
Graphics Director, 1995-96. Designed informative trial exhibits and animations. Reviewed evidence with clients, recommended trial strategy. Certified as an expert witness for video.

Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Tokyo, Japan
Graphics and Layout Editor for English edition, 1991-95. Led redesign project of English edition of  world’s largest business newspaper. Managed two. Also Design Editor, Japan Economic Almanac.

Knight-Ridder 25/43 Project, Boca Raton, Fla.
Graphics Editor, 1990-91. Designed newspaper business, weather and classified sections aimed at a demographic aged 25 to 43; tested with focus groups. Implemented change; managed two.

Knight-Ridder/Tribune, Washington, D.C.
Graphics Reporter, 1986-90. Researched and reported news in graphic form. Developed relationships with and edited content from outside artists. Maintained online retrieval database.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism, 1986. Major in advertising with specialization in videotex. Minor in business management. Nationally honored American Advertising Federation team. Programming, engineering coursework.

I speak Japanese well and can also read and converse in Spanish and Russian.
